I configured two MDS 9216 and connected between them through FCIP and IP WAN. I telneted to local MDS through management interface and able to ping to the remote MDS but I cannot telnet even I can self telnet into local MDS.If I telnet at local MDS to remote, looks it connected but I cannot get the login prompt and it terminate by "Ctrl+C". Any idea why I cannot telnet into the remote MDS ?Thanks,
So, you get the username and password prompt for the other switch when telnet from local to remote? But then you do not get the default banner? This sounds symptomatic of an MTU issue in the network. You said you can ping but have you tried it with 1500 byte frames. At the local prompt, type ping and then enter. Answer the questions and send 10 pings of 1500 bytes. If these do not get answered, you probably are using a VPN tunnel or GRE tunnel to access the other side and when the banner comes over, it is getting dropped in the network because it is larger than what the network can handle.
My connection is 9216A-FCIP-3550-(crossover RJ45)-4006-FCIP-9216B.I'm testing between 4006 and 9216B. I can successfuly ping with 1500 bytes frame between them but still cannot telnet. if I telnet from 4006 to 9216, I got a message "Connection refused". Is there any configuration to accept telnet in 9216B. I enabled the "telnet server" in 9216B.Thanks,
It appears from your diagram you do not have a separate pathway for the mgmt port than the FCIP link. Are you trying to telnet to the IPS IP address? Management to an IPS port's IP cannot be done. You can only telnet to a mgmt port. However, the IPS ports will respond to ICMP. Sounds like your path and/or your telnet session is not going over a different path to the mgmt IP address on the other side.
